I think my finger's infected?

I bit the skin around my nail and accidentally pulled out the side cuticle bit. it went really warm and started swelling up, its been like this since yesterday. Just now i pierced it with a needle and white pus came out and it feels a little better but should i be worried? I realised that i didnt disinfect the needle or anything before doing it.. what could i do to make it better, its really painful.
