In Ohio. Is it illegal to cut through a gas station/parking lot to avoid an intersection.?

I am from Ohio and I'm having an argument with a friend who told me to drive through a parking lot to avoid an intersection. I told him that it was illegal but cannot recall where I heard it or who told me. He says he does it all the time but his word isn't very convincing.
