What do I do about this car incident?

Try and pay cash! Both of your insurance will go up if they are notified. Your automatically at fault in a rear ending. No police report. No points on your driving record and the insurance won't know unless one of you call them. And I'm sure $500 is less than your deductible. Call him tomarrow after he has time to cool off and work something out. Good luck! :)
