There's a hole in my cuticle. Will it look like this forever?

I smashed my thumb in a car door about a week and a half ago. The nail is still attached, there's a little bruising left near the blow (which got my cuticle). The other day, a piece of the cuticle fell off and now there's a slight hole (there is skin surrounding it, but you can see through. Can a cuticle grow back? What should I expect? Thanks.
